Since taking over the Carp Porter brand, one of our key goals has been to improve the electronic control systems on our barrows. After spending time learning the ins and outs of the existing setup, we’re proud to introduce a completely redesigned electronic control unit—engineered from the ground up to meet the specific demands of anglers and bankside terrain.

In this article, we’ll give you an insight into the technologies behind our latest Power Porters, so you can better understand what you’re investing in.

All new Power Porters now come equipped with an upgraded drive control unit (the black box beneath the battery tray). This unit was developed in partnership with a leading UK-based electronics manufacturer and is a major leap forward in both reliability and performance.

To ensure smooth and controlled movement, our barrows are fitted with a soft-start and soft-stop system. When you press the green power button, the motor gradually accelerates to your set speed. Similarly, when stopping, the motor gently powers down—avoiding sudden jolts and offering a more refined, controlled stop.

If you release the power button within 6 seconds, the slow-stop feature is bypassed and the barrow stops immediately. This is particularly useful when loading your barrow into a van or navigating tight swims, helping to prevent accidental knocks or crashes.

The hand controller features a dial that lets you set and maintain your preferred speed—perfect for adjusting to different terrain or varying loads. The same dial also functions as the on/off switch.

Unlike many powered barrows, the Power Porter supports reverse gear. Thanks to polarity-reversible motors, you now get three selectable reverse speeds via the same speed dial, making reversing with a fully loaded barrow far easier than in previous models.

For anglers who need to pack down their gear between sessions, we’ve included quick-release connectors at key points (wheel unit and handlebars). This allows for easy disassembly without needing to unplug or reroute cables. The frame itself folds flat, making transport and storage much simpler.
